Terms of Service

The short version: by submitting a sentence, you agree it is permanent. No edits. No deletions. Ever. You own your words — we own the right to display them on the wall permanently. You must be 18 or older to submit. Don’t submit anything illegal, hateful, or that violates someone else’s rights.

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using Human Sentences ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, waitlist members, and users who submit sentences.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to submit a sentence or make a payment on the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. The Service is not intended for use by minors.

3. The permanence model — please read carefully

Before you submit: Sentences on Human Sentences are permanent. Once submitted and paid for, your sentence cannot be edited, hidden, or deleted under any circumstances. This is a core feature of the Service, not a limitation. By submitting, you explicitly acknowledge and accept this.

Specifically, you understand and agree that:

  • Your sentence will be displayed publicly on the Human Sentences wall indefinitely.
  • Your sentence will be timestamped and assigned a permanent sequence number.
  • You cannot request removal of your sentence after payment is confirmed.
  • We cannot delete your sentence even if you later change your mind.
  • Your sentence may be included in aggregated data analysis, research, and media coverage of the Service.
  • Your sentence may be read, quoted, and shared by others who view the wall.

The only exception to permanence is if a sentence is found to violate Section 5 (Prohibited Content) after submission. In such cases, we reserve the right to remove the sentence and may forfeit the payment.

4. Payments

Sentences are priced at $1.00 (USD) per character, including spaces and punctuation. The total cost is calculated and displayed before you confirm your submission. Payment is required in full before your sentence appears on the wall.

All payments are processed by our third-party payment processor (Stripe). By making a payment, you also agree to Stripe’s terms of service. We do not store your payment card information.

Refund policy: All sales are final. Because sentence submission is immediately permanent upon payment confirmation, we do not offer refunds except in cases of technical error on our part (e.g., payment was charged but sentence was not published). Disputed charges should be directed to hello@humansentences.com within 7 days of the transaction.

5. Prohibited content

You may not submit a sentence that:

  • Is unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or fraudulent
  • Incites violence or hatred against any individual or group
  • Contains child sexual abuse material or exploits minors in any way
  • Infringes any third party’s copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
  • Constitutes spam, commercial advertising, or solicitation
  • Impersonates any person or entity
  • Contains personal information of another person without their consent (addresses, phone numbers, financial information)
  • Violates any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation

We reserve the right to remove sentences that violate these prohibitions and to permanently ban users who submit prohibited content. We are not responsible for reviewing sentences before publication — the wall is live on payment confirmation. We rely on community reporting and periodic review to identify violations.

To report a sentence that violates these Terms, email hello@humansentences.com with the sentence number and reason.

6. Intellectual property and license

You retain full ownership of the words in your sentence. By submitting a sentence and completing payment, you grant Human Sentences a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to:

  • Display your sentence publicly on the Service and all associated platforms
  • Include your sentence in aggregated datasets and analyses
  • Reference, quote, and reproduce your sentence in media coverage, marketing, and documentation related to the Service
  • Translate, adapt, or display your sentence in alternative formats for accessibility purposes

This license does not give us the right to sell your sentence as a standalone product or claim authorship of your words. You remain the author.

All other content on the Service — design, code, branding, interface, and the Human Sentences name and mark — is owned by Human Sentences and protected by intellectual property law. Do not reproduce it without written permission.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not warrant that the wall will remain publicly accessible in perpetuity, though maintaining permanent access is a core commitment of the Service.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Human Sentences and its founders, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the sentence that gave rise to the claim.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
